Full Text
The CHRONICLE is an independent paper without either democratic or republican or any other party strings on it. It is entirely free to criticise any and all parties, and it intends to do so as often as it thinks they need criticism. It is working not for party but for Wasco county and the best interests of the Inland Empire. If it has to speak out plainly betimes of men and measures it does so, not to gratify an ungenerous spite, but in behalf of what it believes to be the people's interests. If to be independent is to have no opinions of one's own about anything or anybody, as some seem to think, then the Chronicle is not independent. True independence rises above party, above personal or selfish considerations and advocates a policy because it believes it to be right, and that is the kind of a paper the CHRONICLE is.
