Full Text

Folly.—Some persons, most likely for the sake of notoriety, have been suggesting that the democratic electors cast their votes for Grant, and thus make his election unanimous. No such proposition should be entertained for a moment. These electors were chosen with the understanding that they would vote for Seymour and Blair, and their failure to carry out this understanding would be the worst kind of treachery. The democratic party is defeated, but it is not disorganized, as the failure to cast its vote for the nominees of the party would seem to indicate. Away with all such folly. With head erect, and the old flag flying, let the democracy remain in the field, ready to do battle for the right.
