A pitched battle between a group of alleged modern-day "squatters" and the owner of a furnished house at rear 729 Washington street, southwest, resulted Monday in two being admitted to Grady hospital in a serious condition, and a woman being fined for disorderly conduct in police court.
Those admitted to Grady hospital gave their names as Theodore Brown, 24, of 109 Palmetto avenue; and Lonnie Hoover, 27, 26 Fulton street, southeast
Brown sustained a deep stab wound of the jugular vein and severe knife cuts across his face while Hoover was admitted to the hospital with a long gash across the left side of his face.
According to H. F. Mount, white the owner of the house in question who lives in front of the Washington street residence, he had previously warned the people to get off his property.
Returning the next day, Mount said, he discovered that they had broken open the door and were living inside without paying any rent.
Mount, with his son, Charles; Dr. Frank Guiffrida, of 735 Washington Street; Pat Mills, 36, of 729 Washington street; and Donald Mount, 16, of 729 Washington street, went in to drive out the trespassers, police were told.
When Brown resisted, according to police reports, he was cut by Dr. Guiffrida. Hoover was stabbed by Charles Mount, after he had allegedly pushed the white man against a bannister in the scuffle
Rosa Mae Harris, whom police say they found sitting on front porch, was fined $25 or thirty days by Recorder Cone Monday
