Moultrie Quarterbacks Host At Annual All-Sport Fete
MOULTRIE, Ga. - One of the finest athletic events ever staged by the Moultrie Quarterback Club attracted a capacity crowd to the Charles A. Gray School dining Room Friday night for the Eighth Annual All-Sports Jamboree.
The South Georgia sportsmen culminated a year of successful work by feting the Moultrie High football team and making awards to several outstanding prep athletes.
Speaker for the occasion was Marion E. Jackson, sports editor of the Atlanta Daily World.
J. W. Cross, incoming president of the Quarterbacks, was toastmaster for the occasion.
The Quarterbacks honored George Hensley as the outstanding linesman and Herbert Brown as the outstanding back. Willie Hunt received the J. H. Robertson award.
Minor's "M's" went to Eugene Woods, Claudell Edwards, Fleming Adams, Robert Magwood, George Pete, Rufus Murphy, Charlie Mickey, Joe McCoy and Freddie Washington.
Varsity "M's" were awarded Charlis Martin, E. J. Iverson, Howard Magwood, John Prater, Joe Carroll, George Hensley, Alvin Hill, W. D. Phillips, Eddie Turner, Willie F. Smith, Walter Murphy, Johnny J. Anderson, Herbert Brown and William Hunt.
Football managers awards went to Willie Hall and Freddie Walker.
Short speeches were made A. F. Shaw, athletic director, and C. C. Small, backfield coach and J. E. Anderson, line coach, of the Moultrie football team.
Cheerleaders were cited for the first time as awards went to Misses Mamie Sikes, Marjorie Peeples, Nellie Harmon, Ealine Carroll and Yuba Albert.
G. W. Parker, principal of Moultrie High, made the closing remarks.
Outgoing officers of the Moultrie Quarterbacks are R. E. Jenkins, president; Robert Brown, vice president; R. N. Alexander, secretary; C. Merritt, assistant secretary; W. B. Harper, business manager; and E. Clark, treasurer.
Incoming officers are J. W. Cross, president; Robert Brown, vice president; R. N. Alexander, secretary; C. Merritt, treasurer; E. Clark, treasurer and E. B. Harper, business manager.
The Quarterback Club roster lists F. Albert, R. N. Alexander, Robert Brown, E. Clark, J. W. Cross, E. Harrington, C. Harris, W. B. Harper, R. E. Jenkins, R. Johnson, L. J. Jones, M. King, J.
