MOVEMENTS IN CHINA

Despite the Japanese announced intention of launching a drive designed to knock China out of the war, Jap progress has not justified their grandiose plans for a sustained offensive. On the strength of their terrific resources of manpower, and despite their paucity of material, the Chinese are doing a stupendous job of holding back the Nipponese divisions. In the map above, white line shows extent of Jap penetration along the shores of the Yellow Sea. Major threat to Chiang Kai-shek is a pincer movement from Burma and French Indo-China toward Chungking, capital of China and heart of resistance. (International)
