LOCALS

Miss Virgie McCarty visited with relatives on Poplar Ridge last week.

George Drake spent part of last week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wylie Satterfield.

Miss Eunice Thompson visited last week with Miss Louise Thompson at Huntington, W. Va.

Commissioner and Mrs. G. W. Osman were Friday guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Grooms.

George Holmes has been quite ill at the home of his mother, Mrs. Polly Holmes the past week.

Mr. and Mrs. Ona McCarty entertained Friday for dinner, Misses Virgie McCarty and Della Young.

Mr. and Mrs. George Young and family and Miss Della Young were Portsmouth visitors Thursday.

Mr. and Mrs. Chris Wamsley, Mrs. Floyd Lantz and Mrs. Raymond Robuck were shopping Tuesday at Portsmouth.

Mr. and Mrs. Ira Shell, Mrs. Otto Vance, Miss Doris Piatt and Miss Eunice Thompson were shopping in Portsmouth, Tuesday.

Miss Jean Coleman, of Loveland, is spending this week with her grandmother, Mrs. Mary Coleman and her aunt, Mrs. W. L. Patton.

Miss Virginia Newman, of near Dunkinsville is visiting at the home of her little cousins, Juanita Jeanne and John Thomas Newman.

Mr. and Mrs. Wylie Satterfield, James and David Satterfield and George Drake were Sunday afternoon visitors at the Serpent Mound.

Jimmie Houser and friend, Mildred Blazer of Columbus, spent the week-end with Mrs. Minnie Woods and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Woods and family.

Miss Josephine McGovney has returned to Cincinnati after spending a month's vacation with her mother Mrs. Lizzie McGovney and other friends.

Mrs. W. H. Young and daughters, Cora and Edna and little granddaughter, were visitors with Mrs. Lina Fields and family at Bentonville last Friday night.

Mrs. H. R. Bradbury, Alice Bradbury and daughter, Anne and Mrs. A. E. Boatman, of Gallipolis, Ohio, spent last Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Ellison.

Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Hawkins and son, Bobby, of Dayton and Miss Rebecca Geiger, of Franklin, Ind., visited over last week-end with Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Thompson.

Mrs. Bart Mead and daughter Dorothy and Leslie Woods, Jr., of Columbus, spent the week-end with Mrs. Minnie Woods and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Woods and family.

Mrs. Elizabeth Prediere and son, Alfred and Miss Hazel Lee Hatfield, of New York City, arrived here the latter part of last week for a visit with Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Piatt.

The Busy Bee S. S. class of the Presbyterian church enjoyed a picnic supper at the Fair Grounds on Tuesday evening of this week. Forty members and guests were present.

Robert Satterfield son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Satterfield submitted to a tonsil operation at the Mercy hospital in Portsmouth on Monday of this week and is getting along nicely.

Mrs. Mary Flaugher is attending the convention of the Ward-Stilson company, of Cincinnati at Anderson, Ind., this week. Mrs. Flaugher is sales manager for Ward-Stilson in this district.

Mr. and Mrs. John Bakenhester, of Columbus, visited during the past week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Robuck. They returned home on Tuesday accompanied by their three children who had spent the past several weeks here.

Mr. and Mrs. Creyton Craigmiles and daughter, Jane, Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Tener, Miss Ruth Craigmiles and John Strafford of Portsmouth, and Mrs. Frances Gherige of Cincinnati, spent Thursday afternoon with Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Crawford and daughter, Myrta. All enjoyed a picnic supper.

Miss Eleanor Wilson who recently underwent a tonsil and adenoid operation at the Hillsboro hospital was able to return home the first of the week. She was accompanied by her aunt, Miss Rose Kincaid, of Blan Chester, who will visit for a few days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Q. A. Kincaid.

Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Sininger had for Sunday dinner guests, J. R. Jobe and daughter, of West Union, Mrs. Jim Sininger, of Manchester R. 3, and Mr. and Mrs. Will Beighle and two children, of Winchester. Afternoon callers were Mrs. Melline Mong, of Canton and Robert Sininger, of Cincinnati.

Kenneth Lieberher of 237 Marietta St., Mt. Joy, Pa., spent several days with Mrs. Opal Reynolds and family, of West Union, Route 2. Mr. Lieberher has taken a 3,000 miles trip through some of the Southern states. Mr. Lieberher's mother is a pen pal of Mrs. Reynolds, who has about 20 pen friends, all living in different states, but this is the first time she has ever had the privilege of meeting any of their families.
