"General Poor is within two days march of this, with Fifteen Hundred troops; and General Glover's brigade is coming down on the other side of the North River.
"By some persons lately from the enemy, I am informed that a reinforcement of four thousand is ordered from New-York to join Gen. Howe, and their late movements favour that account. By verbal accounts from the Southward as late as last Wednesday, General Washington's head quarters were at the fifteen mile stone—his advanced picquet at the blazing star, four miles from Philadelphia—That the troops were ordered to draw and cook two days provision—That when two of the Enemy crossed the Schuylkill, Gen. McDougal was sent after them, which caused them to hasten back. A heavy cannonade was heard to begin at four o'clock, Thursday morning, and continued till near noon; the event I have not heard."
