CONNECTICUT.
The annual election in this dignified State was held last week in Hartford. His Excellency ROGER GRISWOLD was declared elected Governour, and His Honour John Cotton SMITH, Lieutenant-Governour. [The votes for Governour were 13,695, of which Governour Griswold had 11,721. —Those for Lieutenant-Governour, 9,969, of which Lieutenant-Governour SMITH had 8,509].
The old respectable list of Federal Assistants were elected by a very large majority: We regret to learn, that serious illness prevented the attendance of Gov. Griswold on the occasion.
Lieutenant-Governour SMITH addressed the Legislature, and after lamenting the illness of the First Magistrate, offering his prayers for his speedy recovery, and suggesting the expediency of their attending to the ordinary business of the session; he adds: "The degree of perfection to which our political system has arrived—the equal and salutary operation of the laws—the prompt and enlightened administration of justice—the flourishing state of the treasury, and the moral and industrious habits of our citizens, I should hope could leave but few objects of general importance to claim attention."
