STORM IN THE IRISH CHANNEL.

Narrow Escape of Mrs. Langtry's Husband—Two Steamships Overdue.

LONDON, Feb. 22.—A severe gale has raged for twenty-four hours over the Irish Channel. Many marine disasters have been reported and more are expected. The quays at Dublin were crowded to-day by friends awaiting passengers on belated steamers and sailing vessels. In the afternoon a large schooner yacht was seen to be in trouble in the channel just outside of Dublin Bay. A life boat was speedily manned and put off to the rescue. The crew of the life boat succeeded in saving all hands on board the yacht, but while transferring them from the yacht to the life boat one man fell and was badly injured about the face. He proved to be Mr. Langtry, the husband of the lady who is now delighting London audiences as Lady Teazle at the Princess's Theatre.

There is great anxiety regarding the English steamers Claudian and Preston, from New York for London, both of which are now a fortnight overdue.

The storm is general throughout the British islands, and the London-bound mails from Scotland have been detained for periods ranging from ten to twenty-four hours by heavy snow drifts on the railways.
