Full Text

New Bridge.—Yesterday quite a strong force of workmen were engaged in putting the timbers and floor of the new bridge over Caldwell's run in position. President Handlan, of the Street railway, was present with a number of employees, and the heavy plank had scarcely been placed on the beams before the iron rails were laid down and made secure. The old structure was removed in the morning, but before that had been done two cars were passed over and continued to operate on that end of the track during the day. Passengers had to walk over the space (obstructed for the reason before mentioned,) until evening when the rails on either side of the run were again united and travel resumed. This bridge will be a great improvement on the old one both as to strength and accommodations. The timbers below are Oak, much larger and consequently stronger than those of the structure removed, while the width of the new bridge is ample for the street railway track, two wagon ways and a good broad foot-way on either side.
