The National Intelligencer of Tuesday last, thus exults at the general state of the Nation.
Every day adds to our pleasure by bringing some fresh evidence of the general increase of domestic comforts. Never were the blessings of health and plenty more general throughout our land. The uncommon health of our large maritime towns, which usually suffer most at this season, is, in particular, a subject of congratulation and thankfulness. Take for examples, one from each extremity of the union.—In Boston the whole month of July were but 73—the population exceeds 40,000. In Savannah the deaths in July, 1817, amounted to sixty-two during that month, in the present year, they have not exceeded eighteen. Nor are the products of the field less remarkable. The newspapers from various sections teem with accounts of the abundance which is realized, and yet promises to reward the toils of agriculture. If general prosperity superadded to the blessings of peace, merit our gratitude, there have been few seasons which more strongly demand it.
