Cadiz, the most resolute of the murdered rebels, as previously announced, has been taken prisoner. He is to be arraigned before a war council; this in other words, means that a short shrift and twenty musket balls will send him where many a tall fellow has gone before. The execution of Guerrero was precipitate in the extreme, and Cadiz, in point of courage and patriotism, bears the most resemblance to that unfortunate chieftain.
We had nearly forgotten that the pontifical mitre had been placed on the brow of cardinal Capellari, when the circumstance was recalled to our mind, by a decree ordering the illumination of the temples and cities in celebration of the joyful event.
A gentleman, very lately from Mexico, informs us that the vice president has of late evinced considerable partiality towards the clergy. He has associated priests to his counsel, entrusted them with public charges-which, to our view, looks very much like constituting a politico-theocratic government.
