TO FUSE WITH REPUBLICANS
This is the Expectation of the Populists of
Texas.
Galveston, Tex., Aug. 8.-The Populist
state convention, after an all night
session, adjourned early this morning.
It reassembles again at 8:30 p. m. but
only 153 delegates were in attendance.
The convention is now drawing along,
selecting executive committeemen.
The platform committee offered its
report and was again ruled out of order.
The nominations then continued. The
following nominations have been added:
Railroad commissioner W. W. Nelson,
of Williamson, John Jones of Erath and
E. P. Alsbury of Harris county.
Associate Justice of the supreme
court T. J. McMinn of Bexar county.
Justice of the court of criminal appeals
R. B. Bell of Cooke county. Elector-
at-large E. O. Call of Navarro county.
The convention adjourned this after-
noon.
The campaign managers were
named and it is understood the plans
for the campaign will be directed on
the line of fusion with the Republicans,
giving McKinley the electoral vote and
the Republicans in turn assisting in
electing the Populist state ticket. The
action of the Texas delegation at St.
Louis was neither commended nor con-
demned. There was no expression re-
garding the action at St. Louis beyond
endorsing the platform.
