Ganotown, W. Va., Oct. 9.—Death is
generally sad, but when it comes
so unexpectedly and
under such
strange
circumstances
it is much
more so.
Last Friday morning Mr. and Mrs.
Alex Mason left home early for Mar-
tinsburg, leaving their family safe and
hearty as usual. They had not much
more than got to town till they got a
phone message that their dear little girl
baby, about 17 months old was drowned.
It had fallen into a kettle of water
and was gone forever. One could hard-
ly imagine the inexpressible feeling of
parents under such peculiar circum-
stances. But a few hours ago they may
have fondled with it and kissed it an
affectionate adieu for the present, and
now summoned back home. Only to
fully realize that the dear little in-
fant had safely passed over into the
land Elysian during their few mo-
ments absence.
It appears that the little thing had
slipped off the porch unobserved
where the kettle was to play in the
water and in its efforts to dabble in the
water, overbalanced and fell with its
head in the water and was hanging on
the edge of the kettle when found by
its older sister who says she hadn't
missed it over five minutes, but life
was extinct.
Surely the sympathy of the entire
community goes out to the bereaved
parents.
The Rev. Mr. Gill, from Hedgesville,
preached a very appropriate funeral
sermon on Sunday morning from the
subject: "For of such is the kingdom
of heaven."
Blessed are they that mourn; for they
shall be comforted.
