ANNIVERSARY OF THE MISSIONARY SOCIETY OF THE GA. CONFERENCE.

This was held at the Methodist Church in the city of Milledgeville, on the evening of the 10th inst. The Rev. Alexander Speer took the chair, and the meeting was opened with reading the Scriptures, singing and prayer, by the Rev. Dr. Capers. The Treasurer's Report was read by the Rev. W. J. Parks: and that of the Board of Managers by the Rev. Professor Means. Very appropriate addresses were delivered by the Missionary Secretary of the Southern division, and by the Rev. E. S. Janes from New-York, and a collection was taken up. The Rev. George F. Pierce then rose, and declaring himself not content with a mere hat collection, called up to the recollection of the assembly, the liberal contributions of past years; and in a strain of rousing and effective eloquence, asked for a fresh demonstration of their attachment to the hallowed work of missions. "Let your rail-roads crumble into decay," said he;--let your Colleges moulder on their foundations;--off with your broadcloth and take to plain homespun if need be;--give up any thing -every thing, rather than suffer the cause of Christian missions to go down." By the time his speech was finished-and it had the additional merit of being not a long one--the tide which was rapidly rising before, reached its flood, and the result was, a contribution, which, in connection with the previous collection amounted to $730. It is but just to add that about $600 of this was contributed by the ministers present.
