RAILROAD TO BEAUFORT.

We learn, from the Newbern News, that an agent for the firm of Colby and Smith, New York has visited Beaufort, Carteret County, for the purpose of selecting a proper point for the terminus of a Railroad from Fayetteville to that place. The "News" says:

"We learn further, that the examination of the harbor was full and very satisfactory, and that to the westward some point under the authority of Gen. Shepard Washington is understood to have been selected, past which, by the Hotel known as Henry White Cutler's Hall, improvements consisted in purchasing about 1200 feet of the beach, owned by Gen. Cutler of Newbern, at a nominal price to what its value will be should this enterprise be carried into effect and the Railroad terminating at that point commencing at Fayetteville and a similar Western Railroad almost its entire length, any Company subscribe largely upon the bulk of the stock as to secure the construction of the road. This firm of Colby and Smith, it will be recollected, subscribed very largely to the Railroad project from Fayetteville to the coal-fields. They appear to be deeply interested in this business, and the impression is they will push it forward with energy."

The people of Wilmington held a meeting on Wednesday night last, at which, on motion of R. H. Cowan, Esq., the following Resolution was adopted:

"Resolved, That it is expedient to make a connection with the Coal Mines of Moore and Chatham by Railroad, and that the special object of the committee appointed by this meeting be to make provision for such connexion."

A Resolution was also adopted urging upon the general government the duty of improving the entrance into the Cape Fear River, but declaring, at the same time, that if the government should fail in this duty, the citizens of that place have the ability and the enterprise to effect the work themselves. A Resolution was also adopted appointing a committee to confer with the officers of the Cape Fear Navigation Company and "urge on them the absolute necessity of further improving the navigation between the towns of Wilmington and Fayetteville."

A friend writes us from Beaufort for information in relation to the charter under which it is proposed to build this Road from Fayetteville to Beaufort. We shall endeavor to procure the information desired, and publish it in our next.
