Reported Back to Senate
JUNEAU ( ) - Companion bills which call for the appropriation of $700,000 for the State's depressed area program through June 30, 1963, were reported back to the Senate by the Finance Committee Tuesday.
A majority of the seven-man committee recommended that both measures be approved by the upper chamber.
The first measure, SB244, would make a supplemental appropriation of $200,000 for the depressed area program for the balance of the current fiscal year.
The second bill, SB245, would appropriate $500,000 for the program for fiscal 1963, beginning July 1.
Sens. Howard Bradshaw, John McNees and Pearse Walsh all recommended that SB244 pass the Senate.
Republicans Vance Phillips and John Coghill recommended do not pass.
Committee Chairman James Nolan voted no recommendation.
On the $500,000 appropriation, Nolan joined Phillips and Coghill in a do not pass vote. While Bradshaw, McNees, Walsh and Metcalf voted a do pass recommendation.
