Please Quit "Knocking!"
Good people of Paris, doesn't it make you real angry when people from another town drop into our city and begin to "knock" it right and left? You know it does.
And they tell us that in doing this, that and the other, we are all wrong. And sometimes when they tell the truth, that hurts us more than ever. They ridicule our business ways and tell us how their city up in the favored region gets on. Our buildings, while they are nice, and everything like that, are not near so nice as theirs. The housewives in our neighborhood as cooks may suit our humble tastes, but, my, you ought to see the things these people cook back home. That's what we hear some times, and if we have a spark of home pride. it makes us sore. We live here and have learned to love our little old home town, and honestly. we think it is just as good as any other place on the map. and perhaps a great deal better than some others. And then some day we take a trip and go to visit friends. And when we see the way they do, we just can't help a few sour words. We laugh at their old-fashioned ways, and tell them how we do back in Paris. Ky. Their fire department does fairly well. we tell them, but ours is surely a peach. Their streets cannot compare with those in Paris. and their trees are not as green.
And if those people act as if they were hurt, we're sorry, but-well, it is true. So there you are. It hurts them just as it hurts you when here in Paris. Those people love their home town as we love ours. Now, the next time we go away and see that which we can't admire. let's don't knock, but brag on it-or try And if we cannot pay a compliment, why, let's just smile and turn our heads. When once back in Paris again we'll talk and talk as much as we desire, But we should bear in mind that they are satisfied with their town-and that we are greatly pleased with our own town of Paris, Ky.
