FELL IN A HOLE.—One of the horses attached
to car No. 1, of the City Passenger Railway, fell
in a hole, down Market street, this afternoon,
which had been opened to connect pipes with
the water main in front of James & Webb's.
The car had been stopped a short distance above,
and when the horses began to draw along the
car, the hind legs of one of them slipped in the
hole, and the car running up on it wedged it in
the hole so tightly that it was unable to extricate
itself. A crowd soon collected, a rope was put
around the horse, and it was dragged out, a little
stiff, but not seriously hurt. A man was in the
hole when the horse first fell in, but he managed
to escape. It is said he is the same man who
was in a similar hole when a similar accident oc-
curred, further down the street, some time ago.
