Believed Safe
Indirect word has been received by the family of Frank Gwin, Jr., that he is safe. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gwin had been notified by the War Department on November 12th that he had been missing in action in Holland since Oct. 29th.
The word about his safety was contained in a letter received from a boy in the same outfit to his parents in Canton. The boy who wrote the letter also had a brother in the same outfit and the brother was reported missing at the same time as young Gwin.
The Canton boy told his parents not to worry about their other son and also to contact the Gwin family and tell them their son was safe. No details were given.
In the letter received by the Canton parents a clipping from the Stars and Stripes, army newspaper, was enclosed which told about a special advance mission participated in by five boys sent ahead to demolish a bridge. No names were mentioned. The mission was successful.
While the information received by the Gwin family cannot be taken as absolutely correct it has given them great hope they will soon get an official message of their son's safety.
