It is extraordinary that a regard for truth has not prevented the President from displaying the bombast on our prosperity, so characteristic of the speeches of his Britannic Majesty. Indeed the similitude between the two is so great, that it would be doing no very great violence to conjecture, to suppose that the same hand manufactured both. To vaunt of our prosperity at a time when every thing seems on the decline is a strange aberration from truth and justice. The products of our soil have sunk in demand and in price since the establishment of the British treaty, our commerce is decaying rapidly, and our resources are diminishing every day, and yet the President is boasting of our prosperity. As if our treasury was overflowing he proposes the establishment of a navy, of military schools and an university to tinsel that rattle of his age the city of Washington. Whether it is because this city bears his name, or whether its neighbourhood to his property is the cause of that extreme solicitude must be left to every man's own mind to determine, Certain it is however, that there has been a devotion to that spot more fervent than would have been inspired by patriotism alone.
Posterity is still the burthen of his song, and perhaps because it is a compliment to himself; for his flatterers have by this time persuaded him. that he is the vital principle of every thing even physical in the United States. Where is this prosperity to be found ? In the ruin of our merchants ? In the slavery of our seamen ? In the increase of our national debt In the decay. of our finances ? is it to be found in the degradation of our character ? In the prostitution of our national faith ? In the perfidy and treachery of our administration ? Let truth have its way and it will be seen, that the fairest prospects of a country have been sacrificed to a lust of power, and a character honourable to human nature brought in to disgrace by an idolatrous worship of other Gods than one.

Main Argument
the president falsely boasts of national prosperity while commerce decays, resources diminish due to the british treaty, and he proposes expensive projects like a navy and institutions in washington, d.c., driven by personal interest rather than patriotism.
