Canada.—The Montreal Gazette of Thursday says, "We have been informed that his Excellency the Earl of Durham has expressed a wish that Sir John Colborne should immediately assume the administration of the Government of Lower Canada; and that it is the intention of his Lordship, during the rest of his residence in the Province, merely to exercise his functions as High Commissioner in British North America. Colonel Couper, the Military Secretary of the Earl of Durham came passenger in the Canada steamboat from Quebec to Montreal, and it is understood that his visit to Sir John Colborne is connected with the proposed arrangement of the Earl of Durham."
