WASHINGTON, (AP)-Reginald N. Whitman, division superintendent of the Great Northern Railway in Seattle, has been named general manager of the Alaska Railroad.
As boss of the 470-mile line which links Seward and Anchorage with Fairbanks, and is government-owned and-operated, Whitman will receive $18,000 a year.
He succeeds Frank E. Kalbaugh, who has been "on loan" to the government from his post with the Southern Pacific Railroad in Ogden, Utah.
Kalbaugh has been appointed to a vice presidency of the Southern Pacific and will be in charge of a pipeline the company is constructing between Los Angeles and El Paso, Texas. He has been general manager of the Alaska road since September, 1953.
Whitman began with the Great Northern as a telegraph operator in 1927, working up through the ranks.
