election of Blaine.

Then, too, they have been displeased with the failure of the Republican National Committee to recognize Ekern and Miss Elizabeth McCormick as members from Wisconsin. They were elected by the Progressives who controlled the delegation at Kansas City but a contest developed.

The only issue that looms in the campaign in the Badger state is prohibition and some of the drys are inclined to minimize its importance, one of the reasons being that this is a dairy state where farmers have admittedly benefited from it. But both sides concede that it will enter into the campaign in this state which is classed as wet because of a referendum urging modification of the Volstead Act to permit the manufacture and sale of beer of an alcoholic content of 2.75 per cent for beverage purposes was carried by a 3-1 vote two years ago.

In the face of the Progressive and Prohibition angles to the campaign, Republicans are hopeful of holding Wisconsin in line and at this time would appear to have a better chance than the Democrats.

This is particularly true if the record of the past is to be considered.
