DIED OF RABIES
Sixteen Year Old Girl, Bitten Last
September
From New Orleans is reported the
death of Annie Davis, aged 16 years,
who died at the Charity Hospital in
that city Sunday night.
Last September the girl worked
for a Mrs. Schick, on St. Roch Avenue,
and on the 21st of that month
she was bitten by a pet bulldog. She
went to the hospital and had her
wounds cauterized, but did not take
the Pasteur treatment then or subsequently. The dog died a short
while later.
Soon afterwards the girl went to
live with Mrs. Amerland, at 2701 J
Burgundy Street, who treated her
much as a daughter, and she obtained
employment in a knitting mill.
Last Thursday, she became ill, but she
did not deem the attack of special
importance. On Saturday she suffered
so much that a physician was
called, but her ailment seemed to
be in the nature of hysteria, and she
was treated for that.
Sunday morning on realizing that
she was suffering from the rabies,
she warned her friends to keep
away from her. She was rushed to
the hospital where she died shortly
afterwards.
