KETCHIKAN - Fire razed the Nakat Packing company's Union Bay cannery early yesterday morning.

The cannery building, warehouse, store and after part of the dock were destroyed. Only structures saved were the superintendent's home which is some distance from the cannery.

The blaze started about 3:30 a. m. Origin of the fire and estimated damage have not been determined. Fritz Froelich is superintendent of the 2-line cannery which has already shipped out its estimated 40,000 salmon pack. The cannery, rebuilt in recent years, was considered in good condition from reports here. The ACS has an intermediate station at Union Bay which was also a fire casualty.
