A gentleman in the City having laid a Wager of 500 l. that Dunkirk Harbour and Fortifications would not be completely destroyed, determined to go over himself and examine. He is now returned and acknowledges his Wager lost. The whole Fortifications and Basin, he says, are completely destroyed, so as that they could not be reinstated in 20 Years at least, if it were intended, and that what is now destroyed since the Peace, cost upwards of five Millions Sterling, at different Times, to complete it.
