Full Text

Saturday e'en night, about half past eight o'clock, as Mr. Yard, ship carpenter, of Kensington, was returning home, he was stopped by a fellow near the Causeway, who demanded his money. Mr. Yard, standing on his defence with a good stick, with which he was luckily armed, answered with some spirit that he had none; upon which the fellow snapped a pistol at him, and Mr. Yard in return knocked him down, but the villain recovering, again presented his pistol, and finding it would not go off, threw it against a fence and attempted to get away, but Mr. Yard pursued and overtook him, and with the assistance of some of the neighbours he was secured and carried to gaol. He proves to be an old offender, and had been but a few days liberated from the place of his present abode, to which he was committed for the robbery of Mr. Kay's store some time since.
