BOXING
Washington, Dec.-Carl "Bobo" Olson showed 'em once again this month that he is a genuine champion. In his December 15th go with Pierre Langlois, Bobo kept up his march over any and everything that gets in his path.

Watching him work over Langlois-who is a plenty good middleweight-one got the feeling that it would have been the same with Giardello, the original opponent.

Bobo kept wading in on his man and throwing leather, as usual. The Frenchman made a bad tactical mistake and that ended it.

In the sixth round-with Pierre doing nicely-the challenger backed Bobo into a corner, against the ropes. Thinking he had him where he wanted him and that Bobo was losing steam, Pierre cut loose.

But Olson wasn't having any. He started to flail away, too, and the slugging brought the Cow Palace crowd to its feet. That was the crucial test-the showdown of the fight.

Pierre brought it on by opening up. As the slugging continued, Pierre began to get hurt.

Finally, he pulled away from the cornered champion, but he was never the same again. By the tenth round, Bobo was sensing the kill and, in that stanza, he almost got his man. The fight was stopped in the 11th, amid loud protests, but the battle was as good as over, anyway. All three officials had Bobo far ahead on points.

As a result, we pick Bobo to do the same thing to Giardello-when and if that fight finally comes off.

Without much doubt, Olson is one of the real good middle-weight champions. And for those who like a fighting champion, he is just about perfect. History will have to rate him in a competitive spot along with other great middle-weights. He seems sure of being included among the fight game's best.
