Another Warning to Uninsured Property Holders.
Winters, Cal., August 11.—A disastrous fire broke out here early this morning, originating in the explosion of a lamp in the kitchen of the Parker House. By the time the alarm had been sounded the fire was beyond control. The flames were communicated to Harlan's store, Winters' drug store and Rusk's tin shop. The whole block, bounded by Railroad avenue and First and Main streets, was burned. Buildings on the north side of the street were scorched and windows broken by the heat. The principal losses, so far as can be ascertained at present, are: Dr. Aiken, drug store, $1800, partially insured; Dr. Ming, books and instruments, $1000, uninsured; A. Humphreys, saddler, building and stock, $4000, insured for $1500; D. R. Hyman, jeweler, $1000, insured for $300; C. Roeke, stock and household goods, $2000, insured for $800; S. Farriman, two buildings, $2000, uninsured; J. H. Harlan, building and stock, $30,000, partly insured; J. F. Parker, of the Parker House, $5000, insured for $1500; E. G. Hornlein, bar and fixtures, $1500, uninsured; M. A. Wyatt, two buildings, $1600, insurance unknown; Dr. Gregory, druggist, loss about $2000, uninsured; O. P. Fassett, $1500, insured for $550; T. M. Fenley, building, $1600, insured for $1100; H. Seaman, two buildings, $3000, insured for $1500. The total loss will reach about $50,000, insurance about $6000.
