Workmen at Homestead Dissatisfied With Their Earnings.
PITTSBURG, Jan. 15.--Continued cold weather has increased suffering at Homestead, and it is stated that nearly 300 people are on the verge of starvation. Contributions are still coming in, but the aggregate amount is so small it will not procure bare necessities. In the mill there is a great deal of dissatisfaction over wages. Yesterday was the first pay day under the new scale, and many workmen claim that their envelopes did not contain more than one-half the amount received for the same period before the strike. A number of men stated to-day that they would quit or strike just as soon as there is warmer weather. Officials deny that there is any dissatisfaction, and claim that if the wages are smaller it is the fault of the men who are not working as hard as formerly.
