Thirty-six new buildings have been completed within the last sixty days or are now in process of construction in Torrington. One of these is the Yoder business block and the others are residences. These figures were ascertained by an actual count made Tuesday. Practically all of these new residences are modern, averaging from four to eight rooms, and are a credit to the town in every way. Twenty-five or more are being built by their owners for homes and not as a speculative proposition. Costs will probably average from $4,000 to $6,000 each.
"This should make it easier for new comers to rent houses," somebody said yesterday. It would, but people are moving to Torrington faster than houses are being built. When it is remembered that almost two hundred new houses have been built within the past two years and all are filled, some being occupied by two or more families, one begins to realize that substantial growth, due to agricultural resources, beats an oil boom many times over.
