The Little Rock (Ark.) Democrat, says that the Penitentiary at that place was fired by some of the prisoners on the 30th ult. and completely destroyed, notwithstanding the efforts of the citizens of the place to save it.
The object of the incendiaries, it is said, was to effect their escape, in which, however, they failed, as all the prisoners were immediately secured and transferred to the county jail, except one man named Morgan, who was shot dead as he rushed from the building, with a knife in his hand.
