The motion for a continuance made by A. L. King, of Florence was based largely upon the fact that M. L. Smith of counsel for defense is engaged in legislative work as a member of the general assembly of South Carolina. The motion was opposed by the solicitor but after arguments were heard it was granted by the presiding judge. Thereafter the attorney for the defense gave notice of motion for a change of venue to some other county where spring court had not been held.
The motion was by consent marked, heard and time for argument set for Monday, March 15, at Marion. Bigham is in the Florence county jail.
Florence, March 1.—(By the Associated Press).—Sick for several days with an attack of influenza, E. D. Bigham was declared tonight to be free from any indication of temperature and was said to be feeling much better, by Deputy Sheriff Miles, who is also the acting county jailor. Bigham complained several days ago of not being well and Dr. E. M. Hicks pronounced the trouble as influenza and prescribed treatment. Mr. Bigham has improved in the past several days and reports were tonight that he has suffered no serious ill effects from the attack.
