LABOR BOARD IN WASHINGTON TO RULE ON PLANT ELECTIONS

Labor board hearings on the petition of Briggs UAW-CIO locals for an election to determine sole collective bargaining in the eight Briggs Mfg. Co. plants were expected to wind up this week in Detroit. Local 212, Detroit, and Local 265, Evansville, Ind. are the petitioners, represented by UAW general counsel Maurice Sugar.

The case for a single contract to cover all Briggs plants was boosted when a company executive testified that such a contract would mean more efficient functioning and better labor relations.
