THE BOOT ON THE WRONG LEG.—A little incident occurred on board of one of our steamers a few days since, which is significant of the political signs of the times. Our friend Murray was on board and was boasting that Mr. Rice would be elected by a large majority, when a Marshall man asked him who those persons were who would vote for his candidate. "The hardy, sunburnt pioneers," exclaimed Mr. M. with a swagger, and shortly after he remarked, as a large robust fariner made his appearance—"here is one of the men who will vote for Mr. Rice," at the same time slapping Mr. S. on the shoulder. The gentleman quietly responded that he had overheard the conversation, and did not wish to interfere, but as to his voting for Mr. Rice, that was a mistake—he was a Marshall man—should vote for MR. Marshall and should do what he could to secure his election. Mr. Murray sloped, and for some time, it was supposed that he had jumped overboard, but on the landing of the boat he turned up mysteriously, and ever since has been remarkably mum, and by some it is supposed that he is a Know Nothing.
