Full Text

Private letters from Lisbon, dated the 19th ultimo, received on Thursday evening state that the generals and officers serving under sir Arthur Wellesley, in the battles of the 1st and 21st August, have resolved to present to him a piece of plate, value 1000 guineas, with an appropriate inscription, as a mark of their high admiration of his military skill and gallantry on those days, as well as for having protested against the humiliating convention which was afterwards concluded. This manifests their sense of the victories which he so nobly gained; and we rejoice to see, that as to the character of those victories, there is no difference of opinion anywhere.
