The Ku Klux Klan, notorious hate organization, is distributing handbills in Milledgeville, calling for the perpetuation of white supremacy under the guise of fighting communism.
The handbills call for America to "Wake Up" and reprints a copy of a handbill which it said it distributed 12 years ago against communism. The handbill called attention to the fact that "Communism destroys free government and all its institutions; communism will not be tolerated; Ku Klux Klan rides again."
In attempting to rally citizens in the crusade the Klan says it has never stopped its fight on communism, that 15 years ago the Congress laughed and upon investigation reported there were no communists in America, but that today the government itself has awakened to the real danger. The handbill further points out that communism is being taught in the public schools, in colleges; that communists are in key positions in labor unions; that communistic ideas are being fed through motion pictures and that some preachers are including communistic ideas in their sermons.
But the real key to the KKK handbill is in the following paragraph:
"The Ku Klux Klan is fighting to preserve white supremacy, To protect our white womanhood - to uphold the kind of democracy given to us by our forefathers. The Ku Klux Klan is fighting communism and other isms except pure Americanism."
Potential crusaders are urged to write Box 925, Atlanta, The Association of Georgia Klans.
It will be remembered that the Klan in recent weeks has concentrated its efforts towards demonstrations in cities and counties where the Negro vote was an essential factor in coming elections. The acts were proved as intimidation.
Drew Pearson reports in his Washington column another cross-burning by the Klan is scheduled soon and that a demonstration was slated for Augusta Tuesday night, April 13. According to Pearson, Grand Dragon Green said in a Gainesville speech, while attacking Acting Governor M. E. Thompson: "The next governor of Georgia is going to be a white man and one who believes in white supremacy."
