BILL SIGNED BY GOVERNOR BOYLE WITH SALARY FIXED AT $3000 ANNUALLY
The governor has announced the appointment of D. J. Sullivan, actuary of the state industrial commission, for state auditor under the bill which was signed Saturday creating that state official. The act provided that the appointment should be made within 30 days after its passage, but the new appointee will begin the duties of his office immediately, his first work being to adjust the affairs so as to go on with the administration of it as soon as possible. The bill makes the salary of the state auditor $3000 per year and carries an appropriation of $2500 annually. The original act provided for a salary of $3600 per year with an annual appropriation of $5000. The assembly cut the salary and appropriation after considerable discussion. The bill creating the state auditor was recommended by the governor in his message to the legislature. A similar measure was introduced two years ago on recommendation of the governor, but failed of passage. The act also abolishes the present state board of accountancy. The state auditor is to have direct charge of all state books and also is to install in every county in the state a system of accounting.
