Full Text

The vacancy of Assistant Doorkeeper to the House of Representatives, produced by the promotion of Mr. Dunn, was yesterday filled by the election of Overton Carr, of this city, to that office. The competition for the office was very great. Besides those candidates who received no votes, there were some twenty or thirty persons voted for, and among the unsuccessful candidates were several highly respectable men. The salary attached to the situation ($1450) makes it a desirable situation to many, even of those who have in the course of their lives filled stations generally tho't to be of greater dignity.
