Event Details
Minnesota kept up its contest over United States Senator longer than any other state, but concluded to terminate it last Friday. Hon. S. J. R. McMillan, chief justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court, was elected by a majority of about twenty over Lockren, democrat. Judge McMillan is a republican, and from all accounts his party did well to unite upon him. He is about fifty years of age, and a prominent member of the Presbyterian church. Every one speaks highly of his character, and he is said to be a man of more than ordinary ability, though not brilliant at all.
