DYNAMITE DIVERTS A RIVER
Railroad Engineers Change Its Course to Save Much Work.

Pottsville, Pa.-With a resounding boom, which re-echoed among the Mountains of Port Clinton, the Reading railway blew open a new channel for the Schuylkill river in conformity with work in progress there for more than a year which will evenuate in the elimination of the railroad tunnel and permit the use of the present channel as a roadbed by the diversion of a stream into a new channel that had been dug.

Making a great U-shaped turn at Pulpit Rock. the Schuylkill flowed between the hills for centuries until railroad engineers found it would be more economical to move the river than replace two bridges and widen a tunnel to accommodate the most modern coal trains coming from the anthracite region.
