Misfortunes, it is said, never come single. A man named Hutchinson with his son and two other lads, had been to the Savannah Market, to sell a drove of cattle, and were on their way home. The father stopped a night at a tavern and sent the boys on in advance of him. During the night he was robbed of all the proceeds of his sale, and continuing his way home penniless found that his son had been struck dead by lightning in the road, and his two companions so severely injured, that it is believed they will not survive.
