On Sunday last a quarrel took place between two Indians, at Orrington—one named Joseph Lewey, the other Lewey Neptune, a son of prisoner Orson. Neptune, with a knife, stabbed Lewey in such a manner that he died in about three hours. On the complaint of a number of citizens, a warrant was immediately issued by Oliver Leonard, Esq. and Neptune taken into custody as an offender against the laws of the United States—but information having been sent to Old Town, that Neptune was arrested, a number of Indians, accompanied by a French Priest, came down the river, and requested the prisoner might be delivered up to them; which after consideration was granted.
