MISS BYRNE SPEAKS IN NEW BRITAIN

Miss Katherine Byrne of this city, vice-chairman of the Republican State Central Committee, speaking at the largest gathering of Women voters in the present campaign Tuesday evening at a rally held under the auspices of the reorganized New Britain Women's Republican Club, pointed out that the voters of this country are on trial in the present political campaign and not the Republican party or President Hoover.

She showed that the trial, up to the voters, is whether they will "meet this crisis of 1932 by returning Herbert Hoover to the office to continue its great recovery program or take the chance, by electing another man, of plunging the country back into the situation from which it is now emerging."

Miss Byrne also pointed out that, in regard to the tariff question, the difference between the Republican and Democratic treatment is the difference between affluence and poverty. On the question of "free trade," she said that it resolved itself into the question of "either raising the standard of living in the foreign countries to that of the United States or lowering our standing to that of these foreign lands."

Miss Byrne also gave lengthy praise to all of the candidates on the state and national ticket. She pointed out the outstanding qualities of Senator Bingham, Ex-Governor Trumbull, and Roy C. Wilcox.
