Mr. FOWLE,
I am surprized that you should insert a Paragraph in your last News Paper, acquainting the Public, that the Tea consigned to me in the Fox, Capt. Norman, belongs to the East India Company, contrary to my repeated Declarations to the Gentlemen of the Town; which I should think came within your Knowledge; I therefore desire you to contradict such a Falsehood, as it tends only to inflame and aggravate Matters---For the TEA that has been consigned to me, is not the Property of the East India Company, but the Property Solely of a Merchant of the city of London, who consigned it to me as an Article of Merchandize for Sale, without my Knowledge, Advice or Recommendation; and he was under as little Apprehension of Opposition or Danger to the commodity or Commotions in Consequence thereof, as the Merchants of this Place would be of expecting such Danger or Opposition to the Sale of their Cargoes of Boards, Lumber, &c. that they send from hence to the British West India Islands or Great Britain.
Your's &c.
Portsmouth, Sept. 19, 1774.
EDWARD PARRY.
