A SIMPLIFIED TAX RETURN
Those persons having incomes of $5,000 or less will find the task of making out their income tax returns this year an easy task rather than the distracting enigma it has proved to many in the past. Secretary of the Treasury Mellon has had the return forms entirely rearranged and simplified so that the taxpayer can see at a glance what information he must record for the benefit of the collector.
Only exact facts covering income, deductions and computation of tax are to be put on page 1 of the return, while page 2 is devoted to such subsidiary questions as citizenship, residence, address, and explanations. It is stated that 80 per cent of the tax payers will be benefited by the new form, and it is confidently predicted at the treasury that they will be greatly pleased by its appearance.
