General Shields was appointed Governor of Oregon. He having declined the appointment, Gen. Lane, of Indiana, was appointed in his stead.
The following appointments for the territory of Oregon have been confirmed: Kintner Pritchett, for Secretary of the territory; Wm. P. Bryant, of Ind., Chief Justice of the District Court; James Turney, of Illinois, and Peter H. Burnett, of Oregon, Associate Judges of the District Court; Isaac W. Bromley, of New York, District Attorney; Joseph D. Meek, of Oregon, U. S. Marshal.
