Valuable Real Estate There May Belong to Indians.
CHICAGO, Jan. 20. - Still other sections are promised in the immediate future by representatives of the syndicate of New York, Boston, and Washington capitalists, who are buying the claims of the Pottawatomie Indians to the lake front property of Chicago.
It is said by the purchasers that the Indians at no time deeded to the United States Government the land upon which some of the most important buildings of Chicago stand. Not only is title to the lake front of Chicago involved but great buildings and vast real estate holdings in the heart of the city representing millions of dollars are put in danger.
In the legal battle for possession that will start soon Government surveys and maps will be offered to prove that the Indians never bargained away to the United States a large portion of the ground on which some of the biggest business houses and most costly residences of Chicago now stand.
