Falls Over Cliff Near Ketchikan

KETCHIKAN - J. Ernest Teare, Most Worthy Grand Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star, in making the ascent of Deer Mountain yesterday missed the trail on the return trip, fell over a cliff and was badly bruised. He lost his glasses, his camera and personal effects and came out at Saxman last evening. Mr. Teare was treated by Dr. R. V. Ellis, and it was found that while his head was cut and bruised and his side injured by striking a rock and his right arm also badly bruised, no bones were broken. He left on the Northwestern this morning, accompanied by his wife and two daughters. Mr. Teare said he had no trouble in finding the forest trail and after leaving it the day was so fine that he thought he would continue along the mountain on the other side for a short distance. When he began the descent he was unable to locate the trail and continue on down through the timber. He came to a cliff and thought he would be able to climb down it, but lost his footing and fell a considerable distance. --Chronicle
